SPECTRUM STATEMENT OF PURPOSE



Spectrum Uganda Initiatives (SUI) is committed to affirming the dignity of all people and the right of every individual to a meaningful role in society.

 

As a public benevolent institution/body, SUI seeks to directly relieve the poverty, suffering, distress and misfortune in the city of Kampala and surrounding divisions.

 

SUI will work to strengthen the resolve of those who work with the poor, and will encourage others to participate more fully in God’s work of justice and compassion.

 

In its structure and operation,SUI is will be community based, open and affirming of all people, without judgement,whatever the tribe,creed,condition or gender – standing with all those who struggle for justice, and will open its membership to all who agree with its aims and subscribe to its ideology.

 

SUI is a non-profit organization and all money and resources received or generated by the organization, or by any of its projects will be used for the furthering of its aims and not the pecuniary profit of its members.

 

In pursuit of its ideals, SUI will focus its activities in Kampala and the surrounding divisions and seek to respond to the needs of disadvantages and marginalized people by the following specific means:

 

1. Encourage and maintain community based support

    services which will provide skills in compassionate

    caring  to those in need and to encourage personal

    development, hope and empowerment to those people for

    whom care service s are provided.

 

2. Encourage appropriate client centered creative attitudes

    and improved services to those people infected with

    Human Immuno-deficiency Virus(HIV) and other blood

    borne viruses (BBV) and give specific attention to those

    with dual infections including tuberculosis and malaria.

 

3. Foster improvements in health care and prevention

    education, paying particular attention to HIV/AIDS and

    other

    STI’s,opportunistic infections,poverty,hunger,suicide

    and addressing issues that lead to suicide and crimes of

    violence.

 

4. Act as an advocate for those whose quality of life is

    adversely affected by the lack of adequate income,

    housing and timely medical care especially where the

    impact of legislation adversely affects education, family

    support,nutrition,sanitation and the general welfare of

    service users, through representation in the media,

    government and the wider community.

 

5. Undertake such other activities of direct relief and benefit to disadvantaged people especially those on the margins of society as required and appropriate.
